| I need help from all you parents out there. We are having a debate in our house about bed time for the boys, mine are 16 and 10. We also are negotiating on cell phone use at night. I need to ask, what is the bed time for your children you have set, and is it the same for weekends and school breaks? And do you allow them to take their cell phones to their bedroom at night? | |

| In our home, my kids like having a routine, so we pretty much set 8:30 as the time to be in their bedroom. At 8:00, they start getting ready, and this is time to pick up your toys, shut off your games and computer. I have never had a problem with them going to bed at 8:30, partly because the 11 year old has animals to feed at the farm in the morning before school, and on his days of. My 18 year old sometimes will play sports until 10 or later at night if it's an away game, so he is pretty well exhausted when he comes home, and needs that sleep he gets from going to bed at 8:30 the night before.
As far as cell phones, #1 rule we have always had for Talyn and Dylan is at bedtime, before you go to your bedrooms, they have to leave their phones on the kitchen counter, and they stay there until they pick them up the next morning.
We may make an exception tomorrow night since it is New Year's Eve on bedtime, but my guess is other than Talyn, the younger 2 will be asleep long before midnight.
I would suggest if you already have a bed time set, that you stick to it. Kids and teenagers should have 9 - 9 1/2 hours of sleep each night. | |
